Abby Kotun-Thomas

Abby Kotun-Thomas - Johnsen Law Houston Attorney

Attorney at Johnsen Law, where she advises and represents clients in labor and employment matters, complex litigation, and business disputes. 

 

She is board certified in labor and employment law and has experience handling a wide range of issues, including discrimination and harassment claims, restrictive covenants, trade secrets, fiduciary disputes, wage and hour compliance, and small claims. 

 

Before joining Johnsen Law, Abby served as Senior Counsel, Litigation at a Fortune 500 financial institution, where she managed matters involving wire fraud, restrictive covenant matters, and retail disputes. 

 

She also has prior experience in private practice representing employers before the EEOC and in state and federal court. 

 

Abby began her career as an engineer, working for a major energy company as a process engineer, pipeline project manager, and business analyst. 

 

She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Houston Law Center, where she served as Internet Publishing Editor of the Houston Law Review, interned for a federal bankruptcy judge, and volunteered as a student attorney in the civil and immigration clinics. 

 

Dedicated to service, Abby provides pro bono representation through organizations such as Kids in Need of Defense (“KIND”) and Houston Volunteer Lawyers. 

 

She currently serves as President of the Nigerian American Multicultural Council and as Chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Houston Bar Association. 

 

She is also a past President of the Houston Lawyers Association, Houston’s African-American bar association..​​​
